Book of Massacres

This handmade book measures a hefty 16.5 x 12.5 inches. It is meant to be an artist's sketchbook therefore contains 120 pages (counted both sides) of high quality 160gsm white artist paper.

The cover is an assemblage of clay, paint, metal findings, leather, wires, gears, rusted nails and an antique clock face. The client wanted a book inspired by his favourite band. I spent a couple of nights on YouTube just watching this band's videos and listening to their music. The theme color is violet and black, and they are inclined towards the darker Gothic elements like soulless faces, the element of time, hearts and blood.

It was one of the most difficult pieces I've ever made, not only becos of the size but also the theme and the color. Honestly, I kept wanting to add more elements to the cover but had to remind myself that this is not an assemblage artwork, it is a book cover!! I think this is about the max amount of elements I can add to the front cover without it weighing a tonne!
